Formatting a resume is very important mainly to the candidates who are seeking for a job or to the candidates who are in a plan to change their career. There are different ways to format a resume by which you can grab the reader’s interest.
Use a white bond sheet and only black ink for your resume. Use standard fonts like times new roman, courier and arial. The length of the resume should not be more than 2 pages. Because its purpose is to tell enough details but not everything. Choose an appropriate point for the page break. On the first page you should include your contact details, objectives, skills and educational background. As most employers concentrate on your qualifications and skills, you should include them in the first page.
Every resume should contain contact details, educational background and work history. Place your contact information on the top of every page, because the employers receive many resumes for specific job position. Include your contact details in the header of each page; this will make the reader understand that he/she is looking your resume not the other one.
The other sections consist of your objectives, abilities, skills and experience. Your decision in including these details purely depends on your educational background and experience.
The objectives main purpose is to determine the recruiter about the type of work you are looking for. If you have any kind of specialized training or on-the-job training, you can include that to grab the reader’s attention.
There are mainly three types of formats in which each format focus on specific background.
1. Chronological resume format
This format mainly focuses on the work experience. This suits well to the candidates who are having strong work experience.
2. Functional resume format
This format focuses on your skills. This suits for the candidates who are not having strong experience, but think like they could do well in that position.
3. Combination resume format
This is a combination of chronological and functional resume formats. This suits for the candidates who are having limited experience. The format which you use is based on your educational background, and skills.
Lengthy paragraphs should not be used in a resume. Avoid long explanations and provide only brief descriptions which will maintain the length and interest of the recruiter.
