New Resume Letter

In some cases, a resume should be accompanied by a letter of your intention on why you are applying for a job. Writing an effective cover letter for a resume can be done by following these simple guidelines.

On the opening paragraph, clearly state your purpose of writing to the employer. This paragraph should include some basic personal information and how you learned about the job opening.

The next paragraph should contain your point of interest in applying for the job. State in this paragraph the reasons why you choose to submit an application on the position offered. You may also demonstrate the relevance of your educational background and experiences to the position you are applying for.

Mention special skills and qualifications which makes you fit for the requirements sought by the employer. Relevant topics on your resume may also be explained properly in this paragraph. Remember to mention your enclosed resume or any other documents required on the job application.

In the last paragraph of your cover letter, indicate your interest to be interviewed for the job offered and discuss opportunities and hiring plans of the employer. You may specify a visiting schedule if you are already in the vicinity of the employer.

You may also politely inform the employer that you would gladly provide any additional information required. And lastly, thank the employer for giving consideration to your cover letter and resume.

Mr. John Anderton
President, Template Division
Microsytems Corporation

janderton@msystems.com

Dear Mr. Anderton:

I learned of Microsystems Corporation through the Jobstreet.com website, a JobSearch/Job Matching site which aims to fast-track jobseekers explore for jobs and employers search for manpower.

From my research on your web site, I consider there would be a good fit between my interests and skills and your needs. I am fascinated in a software engineering position upon achievement of my degree this coming month.

As a graduate student, I am one of eight members on a software development team where we are creating a computer aided design application. My tasks include designing, coding, and testing of a graphical section of the program which requires the use of computer software for visual input and output.

I have a strong backdrop in computer aided design, software improvement, and engineering, and consider that these skills would help the designing and manufacturing aspects of Template software. Enclosed is my resume which further outlines my credentials.

My qualifications make me well suited to the development areas in which your division of Micro systems is expanding efforts.

I would value the opportunity to discuss a position with you, and will contact you within a week or ten days to answer any inquiries you may have and to see if you require any other information from me such as a business application form or transcripts. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Sean Hillcrest
