Resume Objective

Believe it or not, many employers base their decisions on the resume objectives of job applicants. Job seekers need to recognize that the employers receive hundreds of applications for the same position.

They have little time to spend going through these applications and therefore look for the fastest means of sorting through them.

As some employers opt to use the resume objective as a sorting criterion, take your time to ensure it meets their expectations.

The resume objective is a short paragraph consisting of two or three lines that introduces the employer to your career goals and plans.

This statement helps to tell the employer just how the organization will benefit from hiring you. A resume objective is included just after you have listed your personal information.

Many qualified applicants are turned down because of their resume objectives. When writing your objective, you must tailor it to fit the organizations needs and the requirements of the position for which you are applying.

Your employer will be encouraged to continue going through your resume if your objective is effective.

When writing a resume objective, you must ensure that it is specific. Think about the vacancy to which you are applying and the qualities that the employer would be looking for.

Do you have any skills that the employer may or may not have mentioned in the advertisement that would be of benefit to the organization? Avoid listing your skills as this is not a summary of your resume.

You should also avoid or limit the use of personal pronouns such as I, me, mine or my.
