Scannable Resume
The scannable resume format is also called a text resume. The contents of this type of resume are the same as any other resume. The only difference is that it consists only of words, without using any special formatting. Scannable resume are often stored on a database and are searched for some keywords and phrases. In writing a scannable resume, it is significant to have an idea of the relevant industry keywords and phrases an employer might search for. This is to ensure that your resume will not be discarded by the employer. If you were prompted to submit this kind of resume, be sure you knowledge of the terms and special acronyms used on the job you are applying for.
When writing a scannable resume, it is advisable to use a simple font and a standard text size. You do not have to use special formatting such as bullets, columns or special text. The text contents should be justified to the left. Do not hesitate to include relevant information and be sure to write related keywords and text. Since the resume is to be fed to a scanner, use white paper and good quality printer. An original, unfolded copy of the resume can be inserted on a flat envelope to be sent to the employer. Keep in mind that the objective in submitting a scannable resume is to be selected by the scanner.
