Student Resume Writing Format

Resume writing skills are critical to students looking for part time or full time jobs, internships or fulltime employment after graduation. A good resume will help a student secure a much desired interview and job. With the soaring competition for jobs it is evident that in addition to students’ qualifications resume writing skills play a major role in determining who secures a job and who doesn’t. Sample student resumes may be used to apply for graduate entry jobs, internships e.t.c

There are a number of things you should include in your student resume. These include your contact details such as your name, address, e-mail and a telephone number that can be used to reach you during the day.

Ensure that your career objective is focused and precise. Tailor your objective to match the job you are applying for. Summarize your qualifications and reasons for applying for the job. Indicate what value you will add to the organization.

Include your professional experience. As a student your experience may be limited. Include your internships as part of your professional experience. It helps the employer to know your abilities and improve your chances of securing the job.

Your educational background. State colleges you have attended in order of attendance, beginning with your current school. Use bulleted lists to reference any special awards or achievements that are related to the job you are applying for. Some of the things you can include are the degree/ course of study; awards/ achievements attained and related course work.

Include other skills that you have. Indicate volunteer projects and any leadership experience you have.

Hobbies show that you are an all round student. List the activities that you like doing during your leisure time. This could be reading, writing, playing soccer etc

List three persons as referees. These individuals can be contacted by your prospective employer to give your personal and career related details.
